MAUI: Technology major Qualcomm launched its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 semiconductor chip this week.
Launching at its annual Snapdragon Summit 2022 in Maui, Hawaii, the company claimed Gen 2 would completely change the premium smartphone experience.
“This new mobile platform will be adopted by global OEMs and brands, including ASUS Republic of Gamers, HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMAGIC, Redmi, SHARP, Sony Corporation, vivo, Xiaomi, XINGJI/MEIZU, and ZTE, with the first commercial devices expected by the end of 2022,” the company said. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has artificial intelligence (AI) integrated across the entire system. In fact, the company says it developed the Gen 2 with one technology in mind – AI.
The upgraded Hexagon processor will allow faster natural language processing by more than 4X, with multi-language translation and advanced camera features. “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 automatically enhances photos and videos in real time with semantic segmentation, which uses an AI neural network to make camera contextually aware of faces, facial features, hair, clothes, skies and more – and optimise them individually so every detail receives customised professional image,” the company adds.
