Automobile retail sales surged 21% last month – to 18.8L units from 15.6L in Sept 2022 – on festive demand. Two-wheeler sales grew 21%, three-wheeler 45% and passenger vehicles 18%.
The year-on-year analysis reveals broad-based growth across segments as two-wheeler sales grew 21%, three-wheeler 45%, passenger vehicle 18%, while commercial vehicles 5%, FADA president Manish Raj Singhania said.
Tractor retail sales, however, declined 10% last month, as compared to the same month last year. Passenger vehicle registrations rose 18% YoY to 3.3 lakh units, as compared to 2.8 lakh units in September 2022, as vehicle availability improved. New product launches also led to improved offtake of vehicles last month.
Two-wheeler retail sales grew by 21% to 13.1 lakh units last month as against 10.8 lakh units in September 2022. “With the introduction of new models and attractive promotional offers, demand increased, especially in rural areas, fostering improved market sentiments,” Singhania said.
Commercial vehicle registrations rose by 5% YoY to 80,804 units last month. Three-wheeler sales stood at 1 lakh units last month, as against 68,937 units in September 2022. Tractor sales declined to 54,492 units, as compared to 60,321 units last September.
