Dearness Allowance (DA) Latest News: The cabinet, in a meeting on Wednesday (March 4, 2025), is likely to discuss an increase in dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees. The current DA for all central government employees stands at 53 per cent.
When was DA last revised?
DA was last revised in July 2024, when it was increased from 50 per cent to 53 per cent.
The DA rate is revised twice a year (once in January and second in June).
8th Pay Commission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025.
The DA may merge in the basic salary of central government employees once the 8th Pay Commission comes into existence.
The tenure of the 7th Pay Commission will end on December 31, 2025.
How DA impacts central government employee salary
The salary of a central government employee is decided on the basis of their basic pay.
If the basic pay of a central government employee is Rs 50,000, and the DA rate is 53 per cent, their total salary (excluding other allowances) will be Rs 76,500.
However, if it become 56 per cent, it will become Rs 78,000.
