SpiceJet, the airline of India, intends to start operating a maximum of a 100 new flights every day this winter, thus boosting operations to align with the demand especially because IndiGo is having difficulties.
According to SpiceJet, it is planning an additional 100 daily flights, which are subject to the government’s approval—since the number of travelers during this season has greatly increased.
There is a robust and escalating demand this winter on the major routes and we are planning to add flights in order to accommodate the Indian air passengers, the company said. “On this account, we are anticipating an increase of up to 100 more daily flights this winter waiting on government sanction,” SpiceJet stated among others.
The company has also informed that it has employed 17 planes, a mixture of leased and owned, to increase the number of flights on the busy routes to strengthen the network.
Fleet expansion to meet demand
SpiceJet claimed that it had, two months ago, brought back into service a total of 17 aircraft by leasing some and recalling its aircraft.
“We can fly more and bigger on the routes that are busy and as such our network will become stronger because there would be more planes available.
Through this winter schedule, we will be adding more aircrafts, operating our planes more efficiently, enhancing city connections and providing more reliable services across India to more passengers.
Government coordination ensures smooth operations
Previously, Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha stated that the situation at the airports was almost back to normal after the disruptions caused by IndiGo, and thus, proper flight operations are being restored by the airlines and airports for travel across India smoothly.
As per the report of ANI, Sinha mentioned that the government took the initiative to work with the airports and other authorities to solve the issues so that the passengers would encounter fewer difficulties during the recent travel disruptions.
Regulatory update on IndiGo
The DGCA had earlier given a one-time 24-hour extension to IndiGo’s CEO and the Accountable Manager to respond to the Show Cause Notice that was issued on December 6, regarding the major operational disruptions, and the regulatory non-compliances that were reported, thus granting the extension on the occasion of the holidays.
Referring to the “operational constraints” surrounding the size of its nationwide network, along with numerous unavoidable factors causing delays, the airline had sought more time.
