West Asia Crisis: Many national and international flights are being disrupted due to the ongoing tension between Israel and Iran and the increasing tension in West Asia. Amid this, Qatar Airways on Wednesday, March 11, announced limited flight operations from the capital city. Flights to and from Doha will be affected starting tomorrow, March 12.
Limited Flight Operations From Hamad International Airport
A total of 29 flights will be operated by the national airline to and from Hamad International Airport on March 12, according to Qatar Airways’ updated operating schedule. This will include 15 departures and 14 arrivals.
Major destinations departing from Doha include Mumbai, New Delhi, Islamabad, New York, Frankfurt, Beijing, London, Cairo, and Johannesburg. There are scheduled inbound flights to Doha from Seoul, Jeddah, New Delhi, Hong Kong, Muscat, Melbourne, Dallas, and Bangkok.
Approval From Qatar Civil Aviation Authority
The state-owned flag carrier of Qatar announced in a formal statement that, following temporary authorisation from the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, it has been permitted to use limited operational corridors.
To support passengers affected by the ongoing airspace disruption, the airline plans to operate a select schedule over the coming days. However, it clarified that these flights do not constitute a resumption of regular commercial operations.
Qatar Airways Statement on Passenger Support
“With Qatar Airways flights still temporarily suspended due to the closure of Qatari airspace, we are doing everything possible to support affected passengers and help reunite them with family and loved ones. We recognise this may be unsettling and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Operations will resume once the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority confirms the safe reopening of Qatari airspace,” the airline said.
Qatar Airways further said that it is making every effort to assist the affected passengers and help them reunite with their loved ones. The airline has reassured passengers that full flight operations will resume as soon as the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority confirms the safe reopening of the country’s airspace.
“Following temporary authorisation from the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority allowing limited operating corridors, Qatar Airways plans to operate select flights in the coming days to support passengers affected by the disruption. These flights do not constitute confirmation of the resumption of scheduled commercial operations,” added Qatar Airways.
Delhi Airport Issues Travel Advisory
Additionally, Delhi Airport has issued a special notice for travellers. According to this travel advisory from Indira Gandhi International Airport, some westbound international flights may be delayed or rescheduled due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Airport officials said that after assessing the situation, it will be determined which flight routes will be affected, and passengers need to keep a constant check on their flight status.
Advisory for Passengers
The advisory instructs travellers to obtain their flight details from their designated airlines, as this process helps passengers to understand the changing of schedules due to any disruptions.
