UP Dearness Allowance Hike Latest: Good news, UP government staff! The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh administration has approved a dearness allowance (DA) hike of 200 basis points—or 2 percentage points—to 55 per cent for state government employees. The DA hike will take effect from January 1, with the payment of arrears to be paid in May. As many as 16 lakh state government employees are expected to benefit from the dearness allowance.

What is the difference between DA and dearness relief (DR)?
Dearness allowance and dearness relief are adjustments in the money paid to government staff in tandem with inflationary changes related to the cost of living. Both are similar allowances except while DA is for working staff, DR is for pensioners.
