Aadhar-PAN link: In order to give taxpayers more time, the government has extended the deadline for linking their Aadhar card and Permanent Account Number (PAN) – a ten-digit alphanumeric number, till June 30, 2023. Earlier the last date to link the Aadhar card and PAN was March 31, 2023. It is crucial to link the Aadhar card with PAN before the deadline as PAN will become inoperative post-deadline.

Taxpayers can link their Aadhar card and PAN through the income tax website.
Here is a step-by-step guide on linking your Aadhar card with PAN:
Step 1: Visit the income tax website https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/
Step 2: Register yourself, your PAN will be your user id.
Step 3: Login by entering the User ID, password, and date of birth.
Step 4: A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to link your PAN with your Aadhaar. If not, go to ‘Profile Settings’ on the Menu bar and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.
Step 5: Details such as name date of birth and gender will already be mentioned as per the PAN details.
Step 6: Verify the PAN details on the screen with the ones mentioned on your Aadhaar. Please note that if there is a mismatch, you need to get the same corrected in either of the documents.
Step 7: If the details match, enter your Aadhaar number and click on the “link now” button.
Step 8: A pop-up message will inform you that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked to your PAN
Step 9: You may also visit https://www.utiitsl.com/ OR https://www.egov-nsdl.co.in/ to link your PAN and Aadhaar.

Who needs to link their Aadhar card and PAN?
Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act provides that every individual who has been allotted a PAN as of the 1st day of July 2017, and who is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar number, shall intimate their Aadhaar number in the prescribed form and manner.
