The long-awaited Noida International Airport is now just a step away from take-off clearance, with the regulatory process entering its final stage. Officials confirmed that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has completed a detailed inspection of the airport’s security systems and will soon submit its assessment to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). If the DGCA finds the report satisfactory, the aerodrome licence – the last major requirement before flights can begin is expected to be issued on December 4, paving the way for the airport’s inauguration within days. The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing for a high-profile ceremony, though the exact date is yet to be announced.
Security audit enters final stage
Shailendra Bhatia, nodal officer for Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), said a BCAS team carried out a two-day inspection that covered every layer of the airport’s security architecture. Earlier technical gaps flagged by the agency were reviewed again on Monday, including the system upgrades made over the past week.
Officials said the evaluation covered baggage and passenger screening systems, 3D radar installations, CCTV surveillance, perimeter security, access-controlled entry points, anti-hijacking measures and bomb disposal infrastructure. According to Bhatia, the systems performed effectively across all checks, and the BCAS has drawn up its final compliance report.
Major civil works completed
Authorities confirmed that all construction under Phase I – spread across 1,334 hectares – is now finished. This phase includes the runway, taxiways, terminal building, firefighting facilities, security zones and multi-level parking structures. The airport has also completed key technical trials, such as baggage handling runs, boarding process simulations, security drills and passenger-flow tests.
During a review on November 27, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to accelerate any pending formalities and ensure the licensing process was completed without delay.
Domestic flights first, international operations later
Once the DGCA licence is issued, the airport will begin with domestic passenger operations and cargo services. International flights and additional commercial facilities will be rolled out in later phases. The opening is expected to ease pressure on Delhi’s IGI Airport and improve connectivity across Western Uttar Pradesh, the NCR region and neighbouring states.
Officials said the project is poised to become a major driver of employment and investment, with aviation-linked businesses, hospitality, logistics and real-estate development expected to gather pace once flights commence.
